JOHN WILLIAM 'J. W.' BARKLEY - Born on May 05, 1900 in Winona Shannon Co MO, to John T. and Nora (HARDER) BARKLEY. He passed away on August 12, 1975, at St. Francis Hospital in Mountain View, Howell Co MO. John was married to Gladys GOING of Eminence, MO in 1917. She was the daughter of Othor F. and Cora Chestina (NORTON) GOING. No children were born to this union. On December 27, 1924, John was united in marriage to Esther Olive HARROD, the daughter of George Washington and Martha (GREER) HARROD, in Eminence, Shannon Co MO. To this union eight children were born. John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Nora, grandparents William and Hannah (MARTIN) BARKLEY and Judge Thomas A. and Louisa (RUCKER) BARKLEY; his son William Harrod “Bill” BARKLEY, and sister Lillie Louanna BARKLEY. He is survived by his wife, Esther, daughters Norrine NORRIS, Jennie PREWETT and Shannon GOLDBERG; sons Don, Max and Larry BARKLEY; 19 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, daughters- in-law Lois (CAMPBELL) BARKLEY, Lola (FANSLER) BARKLEY, and Marguerite (SCOVILLE) BARKLEY, a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends and acquaintances. Grandad John will be remembered by many for his years as a farmer, raising cattle, and running the old restaurant and auction house in Winona. He was an accomplished auctioneer and sold many estate sales around the area. We remember fondly the sight of him slowly driving around the city streets in his old green Chevy pickup with rusted milk cans in the back. John was a member of the Winona Christian Church and his funeral was held there on August 15, 1975. He was laid to rest next to his daughter Lillie and son Bill in the family plot at Pine Lawn Cemetery in Winona under the direction of Duncan Funeral Home of Winona. -  IN MEMORY OF JOHN W. BARKLEY.
